On March 13, 2025, Thursday at 16:00, Dr. Asst. Prof. Kerem Mert Şenses from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University gave a talk titled "Epigenetics and the Effects of Epigenetic Factors on Psychology" for Psychology Department students at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, in the Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Arslan Conference Hall. In addition to the faculty members of the Psychology Department, the event was attended by faculty members from various departments and students from the Psychology Department.
During the talk, detailed information about the fundamental epigenetic mechanisms was shared, and the effects of epigenetic mechanisms on animal behavior and psychology were explained through examples from animal experiments in the literature. It was discussed that intensive licking and grooming behavior exhibited by mothers toward their offspring during early development stages in mice and rats positively affected epigenetic codes detectable at the histone and DNA level. As a result, these mice were found to be healthier in adulthood compared to those who had received less maternal care.
